Welcome to the SLCP Signatory Newsflash!

Thursday 27 July 2023

Dear SLCP signatories,

Please find the latest updates from SLCP below. For practical information on using the SLCP Converged Assessment Framework, please go to the SLCP Gateway.

Reminder: Don’t forget to schedule your verifications!
We’re expecting around 11,000 facilities to complete SLCP verified assessments by the end of the year. With verifier schedules filling up, it’s going to be a busy Q4 so please encourage your facilities to beat the rush and schedule their verification soon! Remember verification must take place a maximum of two months after the assessment is submitted to the Accredited Host, but ideally a lot sooner. So, we encourage all facilities to secure a Verifier Body (VB) prior to finalizing their self/joint-assessment. To find a VB in your country/region, checkout the Active Verifier Body List. Please contact the SLCP Helpdesk if you have any questions.

NEW!  US major retailer, Target, joins as a Brand Host
We are excited to welcome our newest Brand Host, Target! Target is a general merchandise retailer with stores in all 50 US states, with 1000’s of facilities manufacturing products in over 50 countries. As a Brand Host, Target will have a direct connection to the SLCP Gateway, allowing their facilities to share verified data with them directly from their Gateway profile. To learn more about Brand Hosts and data sharing process, visit our Helpdesk.

Countdown to signatory vote - SLCP strategy and independence
SLCP is looking to the future! Thank you to those who have already been involved in discussions and feedback on our next five-year plan. We are now finalizing the strategy and all signatories can expect to see a final draft in early September. This will be followed by a signatory vote on both the strategy, and for SLCP to become an independent entity. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

🗓️ Hold the date for our SLCP strategy and independence signatory webinar
Mark your calendar for our signatory webinar on Tuesday 5th of September. The webinar will be hosted by SLCP Council members and will explain the detail of our new five-year strategy, and what becoming independent means for us and you! More details to follow.

Worker Engagement Technology (WE Tech) launch
We are pleased to announce the launch of Worker Engagement Technology (WE Tech) in the second half of 2023. WE Tech is a digital platform for workers to directly report information via a mobile phone survey.

Why use WE Tech?
  • It provides workers with work related critical information easily and efficiently.
  • Helps facilities to better understand the worker experience by reaching more workers including vulnerable workers like women and/ or migrants.
  • The WE Tech question set is available in different languages and can be adapted to inform and improve internal business activities.
More information coming to our Helpdesk soon!
Thanks for attending our SLCP Stakeholder Meeting in Boston
For those who couldn’t make it, don’t worry!  In September, SLCP will host a policy roundtable on the side of the SAC Annual Meeting in Boston. Stay tuned for further details. If you would like to be involved, reach out to Tom Mason at tom@slconvergence.org.

Quality Corner

SLCP - new mandatory training course for verifiers
Over the past few months, we have successfully partnered with the social auditor training and consulting firm Wire-Audit to develop a training course - ‘Holistic triangulation to ensure high-quality verified data’ which is fully tailored to suit the needs of SLCP Verifiers.

The goal of this training is to help verifiers gain a better understanding of the 'Data Collection Tool'. Our goal is to enhance the consistency of data assessment by encouraging SLCP verifiers to use the tool in a more holistic manner through paying attention to the connections between different data points.

Starting from 5 July, all verifiers who have conducted at least one verification will be automatically enrolled in this course within the Sumerra Training and Education Platform (STEP). Once enrolled, verifiers will have 90 days to complete the course; otherwise, they may risk losing their verifier approval.

The training aims to improves verifier’s capabilities within these areas:
  • Describe how SLCP quality assurance system works and Verifiers’ role in ensuring high-quality data.
  • Explain triangulation and the holistic approach.
  • Identify current quality challenges in SLCP verified data.
  • Apply holistic triangulation to SLCP verification process & to the Data Collection Tool.

Spotlight on...

SLCP has grown in the last couple of years, and from time to time we want to introduce you to some of the people who make up our great team. You can see the full team here on our website.

Introducing Urtty Majumder, our Support Coordinator from Dhaka, Bangladesh.

At SLCP, Urtty is in charge of  our gateway facility approval, offers support on the Helpdesk, and collaborates closely with local stakeholders to promote SLCP adoption. Prior to joining SLCP, Urtty served as a compliance specialist at Lidl and worked as a social compliance assessor at Intertek and Elevate. In these roles, she assessed facilities and assisted them in enhancing their capacity. Her expertise lies in providing support on the gateway and Helpdesk which aims to meet the needs of SLCP local stakeholders in the region where she is actively involved.

Urtty is multilingual and communicates frequently in Bangla, English and Hindi. She possesses hidden talents – she can play the harmonium and sing Bengali songs. If stranded on a deserted island with limited help, she would only need a mobile phone, charger, and food. She is happiest and completely fulfilled when surrounded by her loved ones.
