Why SLCP was set up

The Problem:

Over the past three decades, excessive reliance on audits for social compliance has failed to bring about significant improvements in working conditions.

Manufacturers have been burdened with repetitive and redundant audits, wasting resources that could be better used for real improvements. With the rise of Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) legislation, there is a great opportunity to drive meaningful change.

However, to seize this opportunity, a new approach that delivers credible and actionable data is needed to truly improve working conditions in global supply chains.

 

Our Solution:

SLCP offers a solution through the Converged Assessment Framework (CAF), a universal tool developed together by a diverse group of stakeholders to streamline social and labor audit practices. The CAF delivers credible and actionable data that supports meaningful human rights due diligence, helps identify trends and monitor progress, and enables collaborative solutions to improve working conditions.

Our Vision statement outlines the world we all want to see – one where decent working conditions in global supply chains are standard practice. Our Mission captures the distinctive role we play in realizing that Vision. Underpinning our Vision are four Value Drivers that in turn have shaped our Strategic Aims.

Our Journey

  • 2015

SLCP was established as a multi-stakeholder project, led by Cascale (formerly the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), aimed at converging social audits and improving working conditions in the industry.

  • 2019

SLCP launched the Converged Assessment Framework (CAF), marking its transition from a development project to an established program.

  • 2024

Since then, over 13,000 facilities across 50+ countries have adopted the CAF, saving an estimated $26 million annually by reducing duplicative audits. More than 90 major brands and standard holders now publicly accept SLCP data.

Today, SLCP operates as an independent non-profit foundation based in the Netherlands.

Who is involved with SLCP?

SLCP is a stakeholder-driven initiative made up of

SLCP is owned by its signatories and exists to achieve their shared vision of improved working conditions through implementation of the CAF.
