21 September 2021

Dear SLCP signatories,

Please find the latest updates from SLCP below. For practical information on using the SLCP Converged Assessment Framework, please go to the SLCP Gateway.

Evidence that SLCP Adoption Results in Significant Savings for Manufacturers
Earlier this year, we announced a new collaboration with the Better Buying Institute™ (BBI). As a first step in our collaboration, BBI included questions about use of SLCP in their annual Better Buying Purchasing Practices Index (BBPPI).
According to an initial analysis of the BBPPI 2021 data, over 20% of participating suppliers reported that their buyers have adopted SLCP’s Converged Assessment Framework (CAF), resulting in savings of thousands of dollars, in some cases as high as $20,000 a year. These savings were reported to be typically reinvested in workplace improvements, new technologies, improved social protections for workers, and community programs. This data demonstrates that SLCP has already begun to achieve its vision and mission of redeploying resources from auditing to improving working conditions. You can read more about the findings here.
SLCP 2020 Data Insights Brochure
We are excited to share with our signatories the 2020 Data Insights Brochure, which has been developed together with the International Trade Centre (ITC). As data analysis plays a crucial role in redeploying resources from auditing to improving working conditions, we developed a data insights workstream based on our 2020 operations. The workstream resulted in this publication which provides highlights from our internal study of that data and a snapshot of potential opportunities. You can find the brochure here.
Law Overlay is now LIVE in 3 Countries!
We are excited to announce that the Converged Assessment Framework (CAF) v1.4 Law Overlay is now available to all facilities in Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Vietnam on SLCP’s Accredited Host platforms: FFC and Higg. The Law Overlay raises awareness of applicable legal requirements for the facility. It enhances the quality of the final verified assessment report by ensuring legal non-compliances are captured, and country law is applied consistently across verifications. Read more about it here
Letter to the OECD Working Party on Responsible Business Conduct
SLCP has written to the OECD Working Party on Responsible Business Conduct to contribute to the public consultation on gaps in the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. In our letter, we call for further clarification of corporations' responsibility to respect labor rights to complement the existing human rights chapter. We also propose the use of SLCP verified data to support the efforts of multinational enterprises to understand and prevent poor working conditions in their supply chain. Read the full letter from SLCP to the OECD here.
SLCP in the News
It is great to see SLCP mentioned in a recent MIT Sloan Management Review article on supply chain transparency as an example of best practices in industry collaboration and converged assessments. You can read the article here
