New publication: SLCP’s role in identifying severe human rights issues

SLCP has released a new guide demonstrating how the Converged Assessment Framework (CAF) helps stakeholders identify valuable indicators of severe human rights issues, particularly those related to the International Labor Organization (ILO) Core Labor Standards. The publication highlights SLCP’s value as a foundational tool for brands implementing risk-based human rights due diligence (HRDD).

When following a risk-based HRDD approach, severity is a critical factor for risk prioritization. According to the OECD, the severity of an adverse impact is determined by its scale, scope and irremediable character. For labor-related issues, a key indicator of severity is whether the violation concerns fundamental rights at work, i.e., the ILO Core Labor Standards.

SLCP mapped the latest version of the CAF against the ILO Core Labor Standards. The mapping helps companies understand where SLCP’s CAF poses questions related to the most severe human rights impacts and where additional investigation may be needed.

Based on insights from this mapping, the publication shows that SLCP assessments often uncover potential indicators of severe human rights issues, supporting brands prioritize risks and strengthen their risk-based HRDD approach.
