Welcome to the SLCP Signatory Newsflash!

Monday 4 September 2023

 Dear SLCP signatories,

Thank you for all the support you have given SLCP since our inception in 2015. In that time, we have grown from an idea to a foundational program that is now helping to transform global supply chains and improve workers’ lives across the world.

Together we have driven great impact. But there is so much more we can achieve.

On 1 January 2024 SLCP will begin the next stage of its journey – with our second five-year Strategic Plan (2024-2028) and as a fully independent organization. As our valued signatories, we need your vote for both.

This special Newsflash outlines our thinking, the voting process and what we need from you.
Our five-year Strategic Plan

Many of you have been involved in the development of our Strategy, through our signatory survey, webinars and in-person event in Copenhagen earlier this year. Your feedback has been invaluable. Today, we can share with you a final draft of our new Strategic Plan. This is evolutionary, rather than revolutionary – building on strong foundations and the impact we have already achieved with our signatories and partners.

The plan shows how we will progress our shared vision of creating decent working conditions in global supply chains - focusing on four strategic objectives:
  • Relevant and effective tools that can be scaled and used in multiple sectors.
  • Credible and actionable data – with diverse stakeholders, including governments accepting the data.
  • Accelerated collaborative improvement actions – to drive improved working conditions.
  • Inclusive organization and dynamic ecosystem – with multi-stakeholder governance and committed partners.
You can read the full detail in our final draft Strategic Plan on our Signatory Portal webpage.
An Independent SLCP

In December last year we announced our objective of becoming a fully independent organization. We believe this expresses the maturity of SLCP – as set out in our new Strategic Plan. And, as a credible, neutral, and independent Multi-Stakeholder Initiative we will have further opportunities for convergence, increased adoption and expansion into adjacent sectors that many of our signatories already represent.

Today we are ready to share our plans with you in detail and to seek your formal vote in favor of independence and legal separation from the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC).

We are deeply grateful to SAC for nurturing SLCP’s growth over the last seven years, and also to other key organizations who provided critical financial support in our early stages. These include the C&A (now Laudes) Foundation, founding signatories, and other donors and grantors. SLCP is now well-established, self-funding and ready to take the next step in its journey.

We have been working with SAC over the past year on how to structure and manage the separation and set SLCP up for future success.

We will be setting up a Netherlands-based not-for-profit foundation called a ‘stichting’, which is ideally suited for multi-stakeholder organizations like SLCP that are working for the public benefit.

Most importantly for our signatories, we will maintain our existing governance arrangements in the new set-up, enabling you to continue to elect Board members and to vote on significant issues, such as approval of our Strategic Plans.

Read more about our plans for independence, including FAQs on our special Portal webpage.

But to take both these things forward we need your input and support! Our signatory vote for SLCP’s Strategy and Independence is now live.
